The 6th MILENG COE Steering Committee will take place on 5 October 2010 in Bucharest, Romania in conjunction with NSJEC 2010.

AJP-3.12(A) is still in the ratification process. However, work on a new version (B) already started.

During the Industry Day on 08 December 2010 more than 50 companies will display MILENG related equipment in Ingolstadt.

The next Tactical Interoperability Orientation Course (4), and last of 2010 (TIOC) will start on 4 Oct 10  . There are currently some spaces available for those wishing to attend. The last TIOC (3) was well received by the 16 students, whose spirits were not dampened by the somewhat wet weather during the second week. More details are available in the Training & Education System Courses link.

In support of ongoing operations and transformation of NATO, military engineering staff officers in static, as well as in deployed Headquarters need to have an understanding of the following:

a.         Military engineering related knowledge of NATO Hierarchy including committees and working groups.

b.         Knowledge of existing NATO military engineering related policy and doctrine

c.         Knowledge of NATO Staffing procedures for the NATO Security Investment Programme.

The next NMESOC will be running from 13 – 17 Sep 10.

The NATO Senior Joint Engineer Conference (NSJEC) is the annual meeting of the national and NATO HQs Chief Engineers to discuss and decide on current MILENG issues and to provide guidance for the future development of MILENG. Another aspect is the harmonization of the Program of work of respective MILENG related NATO Working Groups and also to provide input for the work of the MILENG COE.

MILENG COE is acting as the secretariat for the NSJEC and currently preparing the next meeting which will take place on 05–08 October 2010 in Bucharest. For further details: see Events.

The current NATO Strategic Concept is from 1999 and does not meet the requirements of today. The development of a new concept is ongoing. On 17 May 2010 the Group of Experts provided their recommendations for a new strategic concept to NATO.

The new concept is expected by end of 2010. Most probably this will lead to new political guidance in 2011.

To improve MILENG standardization, interoperability and capabilities it is necessary to agree on a common way ahead. MILENG COE – tasked by the NATO Senior Joint Engineer Conference – drafted a paper on MILENG V&O, which is aimed for the next 10 years and will be forwarded to the Military Committee as soon as approved by NSJEC in 2010.
